[PCR-1000] Repair???

Hello All:

This thread couldn't have come at a better time.  I have
owned a PCR-1000 for about 7 years and like it fine for
what it is.  I enjoy using it on my work computer and can
tune around when things get slow.  I've also had it set up
as a Web signal monitor/receiver for a while but it got
boring and the usage dropped off.

As it happens I bought another one last weekend at the
Hosstraders flea market in Hopkinton NH what was
supposedly "hit by lightning".  As an aside there was also
a Yaesu FT-100D that was similarly afflicted and I bought
it too ($10.00 each - big spender!!!)  The damage was
clearly evident in the FT-100D but when I examined the
PCR-1000 there was none to be seen.   There was a letter
from ICOM attached to the box that quoted a repair cost
of $640.00 plus shipping so there must be something
wrong with it but so far I can't see anything amiss.

However I have not powered it up yet because a: lack of
time and,  b: the ICOM power supply measures what I
consider to be on the high side for a 12VDC supply under
no load.  I don't know how much excess voltage this box can
take before it complains.

I will take it to work and later today I will swap the box with my
old standby and see what's what.

So keep the thread going and it will possibly spark some new
interest in this list.
