I am sure it will be around for a long time.  It is a great receiver for
it's price.  As you point out, there is nothing in it's price range even
being offered now, and I personally prefer it over the more expensive
Winradio model.  It is far more flexible because it is so well supported
with 3rd party programs.  It's biggest problem (the eprom erasure), is easy
to fix.
It mine blew up today I would go buy another.
I am hoping someone comes up with a new wideband black box receiver.

As far as the PCR1000 being discontinued goes, I'll bet it will be around
for quite a while and will hold it's price in the used marketplace. What are
the alternatives? Maybe there's more than the WinRadio 1550e at $600 or the
new TenTec RX-400 at 'under $6000' :(   Will Yaesu take the plunge? What is
AOR up to? Will Icom replace the PCR1000? What's cooking 'down under'? Does
anyone know of anything else that's available or coming down the pike?
