[PCR-1000] no receive

Hi there,

I don't know if you bought the unit 2nd hand, or if it is a unit that was working and now doesn't work any more. 

If the receiver was working before and you just came down one morning and it stopped, then we have a radio that needs to go in for repair. I assume there are no "Com Port" errors, such as might be caused by installing a PDA or Pocket PC. I don't know what your circumstances are locally, but here I would certainly send it to the agents. Tell them you never used anything except their software. Might be good to check all cables are still connected correctly. For most people, going through the EX2099 diagnostics isn't an option.

If you bought it and it appears not to work, then (assuming you are using iCom's software) and the inadequate instruction manual :

Assuming you're not listening to SSB/CW with the bandscope on:
0) If you have a Dell D800 or M70 laptop its probably a computer problem. The mic input doesn't connect to the speaker or headphones by design. There is no "line-in".  goto 5)

1) Check your antenna, tune to a local radio station frequency, AM or FM and see if the bandscope is working. If it is, then we have to check out the audio. (I assume the controls all look as if they're working.) goto step 3)

2) If no joy on the bandscope then something is wrong with the RF/IF section, or maybe the CPU/EEPROM. From your email, It looks like you can't hear on any of the PCR's bands.   It might be worthwhile checking that you have the correct COM cable supplied by iCom. I think details of the correct cable have previously been posted to the list. Try loading default eeprom values as a last resort. If that fails - consider getting iCom to fix it.

3) If the bandscope works - see if the radio works on the internal speaker. (Debox the set and switch the speaker switch to internal. )

4.) If that works, then you have to check audio cable from the line out of the PCR1000 to the line in of the computer is OK. I think the line out of the PCR1000 is a mono connection and the line in to the computer is stereo, so if you get the cable the wrong way round, or wire it incorrectly, there might be a problem.

5.) A temporary fix is to use spectrum lab to connect the input to the output. Apparently its possible to gippo the soundcard installation. Working on it.

I don't particularly like scrapping a Rx - unless there's lightning damage and everything has blown. See what your local agent can do. Apologies if this all seems a bit simple - sometimes we forget the simple things.
