Alot of it depends on the kind of antenna your using. The NOAA satellite
signal is circular polarized.
Ideally, you would use a quadrafilar antenna to prevent dropouts as the
satellite passes through your zenith. But they are expensive, and a real
pain to build. :-)
I used to use a 150 Mhz vertical, as I received more quality signal than my
crossed dipole antenna except at the high point of each pass, where the
dropout occurs. It could drop out for up to 15 seconds depending on the
lookangle of the pass.
WXtoIMG is just about the best software I have ever found for WX satellites.
Not sure why your get a difference between NFM, and WFM at the same
bandwidth, unless its another of those infamous ICOM "quirks" they wont fix.
