[PCR-1000] When can we expect the NEW PCR1000?

I have had the PCR1000 (5+ years) the WinRadio 1500 external (2+ years) and
the RX-320 (2+ years). The RX-320 is different so I will leave it out of
the comparison, but, I much prefer the PCR1000 over the WinRadio. While
WinRadio may have open APIs, at the end of the day they mean nothing since
the PCR1000 is supported by FAR more 3rd party programs. While it was
stupid for Icom not to publishing the PCR's protocol, in reality it was so
easy to reverse engineer it that it does not matter.
For these radios, software is (almost) everything and I prefer the software
options I get with the PCR. The hardware of the PCR and the WinRadio are
close enough (and they both have plusses and minuses) the software control
packages are what win me over.
I am going to put my WinRadio 1500 up for sale in Ebay in a week or so. I
am keeping my PCR since I feel it is the best mix of performance and ease of
use. I have a very wide variety of receivers, but I always seem to have the
PCR up and running since it is so flexible.
BTW, I agree with Barry, any topic that puts activity into this list and
remotely relates to the PCR is fine with me!

Actually, Don, Winradio has a variety of models. Their original PC card
went to 1 ghz as I recall.
The G303i and G303e, 313 series (internal card/external) are HF only, but
The WR1550's are wideband -- 150 kHz-1.5mHz. They have a higher end unit
that goes as high as 4 gHz. (WR-3500 i or e. -- only $2,995.)
Wideband receivers are usually sub-optimal on HF, and the Windradio 303/313
are more comparable to something like the Ten-Tec RX-320D which is a PC
controlled HF receiver.
I have the PCR-1000 and several of the RX-320's and 321's (special variant).
I've never had a Winradio -- just going from memory and what's currently
posted on their website.
There are also a number of standalone receivers that with computer control
capability, ususally HF-only or VHF-UHF models, but not necessarily. Some of
these are commercial and military receivers that have become available on
the surplus and used markets, like the RACAL RA6790GM, which is HF, but
there are wideband "surveillance" receivers from Watkins-Johnson, etc.
If you can't do all you want with a PCR-1000, then "accessorize" by adding
another receiver ;-)
While, this is the Icom PCR-1000 list, I, for one, don't see a problem with
making comparisons, especially considering Icom's apparent committment vs.
some of the other manufacturers. And yes, there are other lists for
Winradio, RX-320, etc, where more detailed posting on those belong.
Barry
