[PCR-1000] Remote use of the PCR-1000 from the computer

If you can put a laptop or mini PC next to the PCR at the remote you can get
full control plus audio.

you can buy RS-232 extenders from Black Box and other companies that will 
allow fast bitrates over almost unlimited distances.  some use CAT5 or 
fiber media between the extenders.  they all provide a transparent clean 
RS-232 connection like appears to the PCR-1000 and computer just like a 
short RS-232 cable.

there are WiFi > RS-232 adapters too, so that's another option.  the return 
audio path would be another issue.

has anyone tried using two hardware-based modems over a phone line to 
control a PCR-1000?  again, that wouldn't provide an audio path, but it 
would be fun to try and should work.

has anyone else seen the ad for icom's PCR-1000 replacement in december's 
Monitoring Times?  it uses USB, not RS-232. pity.
