Hello DB,

  a  different  approach:  I  had  similar problems when monitoring longwaves. I
  found all the tips I could imagine in the well known "On The Art of NDB DXing"
  by  Sheldon  Remington  (KH6SR),  originally appeared in "The LOWDOWN" and now
  available online in the LWCA website http://www.lwca.org/index.htm.

  If  you dont find it there, let me know and I'll email you a copy. In my case,
  the "electrically steering nulling technique" was the cure.

  Besides its effectiveness in solving your specific issue, I warmly suggest you
  to  check  it  as  in  my  opinion  it is not only a precious tool every radio
  aficionado should keep at hand but also a nice reading.
