I don't know about 10 times better. The PCR 1000 overloads on strong
signals in the HF bands if you plug in a decent aerial and the r-390a
has better IF filters. (IMNSHO). The R-390 series are somewhat easier to
fix when something goes wrong. (This may be an age thing, perhaps
younger people find boards with SMD devices less daunting than I do). On
the other hand the PCR1000 has much wider coverage and so on. Maybe 30
years from now, the PCR 1K will be a classic Rx. You definitely have to
have at least both plus a shirt pocket Rx to take to work. - Bryce
