the packet output is for the narrowband disc output and has to be used to 
decode higher data rate signals that cant be done with the regular audio output 
which is filtered to pass voice frequencies (< 4 khz)

if you want to bring out the 10 Mhz wide IF to drive a spectrum display or 
for other purposes the mod to do it is on the web
