I wrote the above a day or so back.I thought I'd try my USB serial
adapter (prolific chipset) on my Win98SE p/c.Since this p/c has two 9 pin
serial ports on board I had no need for the adapter.Anyway I plugged the
adapter in & checked in Device Manager to its properties. It came up using
Com-5.I started the PCR1000 pgm {I use the Icom software} changed it to use
Com-5 & powered it up.All is well.The pgm run's as it should.So,at least on
one p/c running Win98SE,this brand of USB serial adapter works fine.
Also,in the previous post,I noted that there were reported problems when
using a Belkin USB serial adapter to run radio control software.I should
not have been so general. The problems I meant to describe concerned runing
TNC/decoder pgms along with a radio, which is where I spend 99% of my time
re HF sigs.
