Bill,

Just looked over the schematic. The LA1145M is an FM IF made by Sanyo.
Looks like it is a tap directly off the detected audio (pin 8). I'm
betting you could do a couple of things with this. One would be
recovering the SCA audio channel that is present on many FM radio
stations. The other would be some kind of tone analysis or remote
control type function. Perhaps a hardware DTMF decoder, digital squelch
or CTCSS? Maybe an audio spectrum analyzer. I seem to remember a few
years back something called 'transmitter fingerprinting'. Basically the
transmitter monitored has a unique signature due to the variability of
the components used. As a result it takes a certain amount of time to
settle on frequency and this information can be recovered from your
receiver, digitized and compared with previous hits. A close correlation
indicates a 'match'.

I'm just guessing and all of the foregoing is probably way beyond the
scope of this list. Maybe you could drop a line to Icom customer
support. This might be marginal but you never know.
