OK, I'm confused.  It's been a while since I've tried ACARS, the radio is on 
another computer, and the manual is hiding, but I'm fairly sure that the 
"packet" output on the 1000 is documented as only being useful for the FM 
mode.  I had assumed that ACARS would be AM, the same as everything else in 
the air band.  Is this a faulty assumption?  (It could be, because I had such 
terrible luck decoding ACARS that I gave up on it.)
