I hope someone can provide some help, I have what I think is an aerial issue.
I have two aerials, a multi frequency pole (0-2GHz) and a long wire (0-40MHz)
All is well on VHF and UHF but HF I have problems.
Using the Pole I have a noise floor of 0, using my long wire the noise
floor rises to 5 or 7.
A signal which is say +1 on the pole is +1 above the noise floor on the
long wire.
The long wire is connected to RG58 via a balun and is then (due to space
outside) wrapped round the beams in my loft. (25Mtrs wrapped in 3.5 turns)
The Pole is outside on a mast.
I would have thought that the long wire in this configuration would have a
noise floor similar to the pole and also better reception on HF.
Am I being stupid and missing something? Advice is welcomed!!!
Oh... Both aerials are connected to a switch box for ease of use.
