[PCR-1000] talkpcr expert/country setting

I do not know what was in my head, but I apologize for the gross error
of indicating that the EEPROM needed to be programmed with another
device.  Being that EPROM's can be flashed and re-programmed over the
RS232 bus completely escaped me.

Desperation can do funny things to people.  If the jist is right, it's
not really worth the effort.  First, you would need to download the hex
data to some type of system with a utility to edit that hex data.  Then,
you have to know EXACTLY what data to modify, IF modifying the data is
the way to change this "setting".  Changing the code, external to the
host device, would require you to clear the existing data ( flash ) from
your EEPROM.  One small error would require you to shell out $150.00US
to have Icom re-align your receiver.  If you were successful, you would
have to the re-program the EEPROM with the modified hex data.  This
alone requires a EEPROM programming system, probably the same one that
allowed you to modify the hex data in the first place.

I have not in the year that I have owned multiple PCR-1000s, have I
heard or read any information that indicates that the radio can be
modified by soft or hard methods.  If purchasing a PCR-1000 with a
different country "setting" interests you, go to a different country to
buy one, I hear that it is pretty simple.

can anyone help me with understanding how to change the country setting 
on the eeprom.
i've heard a hundred times that you can do it with talkpcr....but i can 
find nowhere that says how!!
there has to be some talkpcr experts out there!
