Good question.
In short, as I said in my original rather lengthy answer, *remove* the
sono tube !!!
It will act as an insulator to ground, which you do NOT want.

The use of the sono tube is only to hold back the earth as you pound on
the ground rod.
Once the top of the rod is below the surface of the ground, remove the
sono tube and save it to use for something else . Then start the "Kitty
Litter operation.

Please do NOT use a power impact hammer!!!!!   GOSH !!  :)
