I have found the same thing with my cheap radio shack discone, and have gotten a 100 kHz FSK signal at 25 Khz and have no problems with NDB's, DGPS, Navtex and other signals below the AM broadcast band. I think I will get a preselector because I do get some overload in parts of the HF band.
the discone is not a bad antenna for starting, but its getting to the point where I want to switch in some higher freq directional antenna and a lower noise one for HF. the wellbrook active loop is on my list and according to several of my friends it is a good match for the PCR.
is anybody using a good remote control coax switch, I see some for HF but not for VHF and UHF and the military ones are quite expensive. would be nice to have one covering DC to daylight and be able to run one coax line into the house but I guess they arent out there?
