[PCR-1000] am band

My PCR-1000 has had a nagging problem since I bought it on eBay. It
works fine, even with the telescoping antenna on all bands except
standard am
broadcast (0.54-1.6 MHz). Below 2 MHz it barely receives any signals
(there are some
powerful transmitters in Dallas where I live). It doesn't matter whether
attenuate is on or not. Above 2 MHz everything up to 10 gHz comes in
fine. From the tech manual I gather that each band goes through a
separate filter circuit. What would make the lowest one not pass the
proper frequencies? I get the same symptom with the ICOM software and
Talkpcr.
