yes it works very well. I have been using one for 6 months. I originally
bought it to connect my Garmin gps to my Windows laptop. I use it with
the gps, the pcr1000, on a Sony Viao windows XP and on a Dell desktop
with XP Pro

I just hooked up my PCR1000 to my Mac Powerbook with a new USB to
Serial adapter made by IOGear. It's a model # GUC232A. The cable is
about 12" and comes with a driver. The only downside is that because
of the screw down connector on both the radio and the adapter, I
couldn't plug the adapter directly into the radio. I had to use an
extension cable to plug it in.
It worked perfectly with MacPCRX and with TalkPCR on Virtual PC
(without having to install the windows driver.) I haven't used it on
a PC yet. The radio saw the connection right away with both programs
without having to do any additional configuring. Works even better
than the Keyspan adapter I have been using.
Anyone needing a USB/Serial adapter may want to check it out. I got
it at Best Buys for $30.00.
