There are certain low capacitive lightning protectors availible for
connecting in-line
with antenna coax. On low freqs silicone diodes would work, but it has
quite high capacitance
and like a small capacitor it would shunt out some signal, more the
higher the frequency.
Low capacitive diodes like switchdiodes (eg.1N4148) is better then big
power diodes, cost is
nearly zero if the burn out and need to be changed.

Why not just put a heavy current diode (5 amps?) across it? Silicon
would require about .7 volts before it would conduct. That is what is
on my weather station leads (vendor installed).

Hi all,
I picked up a few ZAPTRAPS (made by a firm called Strike technologies) -
used for protecting computers on a LAN (I think). These are little boxes
with a BNC connector on each end and a green earthing strap. Just for
fun, I placed one between my antenna and Rx - no noticeable drop in
sensitivity up to 30 MHz. What's your collective wisdom on using
something like this to protect the PCR1000 front end from static ? I
can't identify all the parts in the thing.
