[PCR-1000] PCR1K -- #02408 Date of manufacture?

I just picked up one (used), is there a significance to the S/N?

Mine didn't have the Bonito software, is that worth purchasing?

Right now I want to scan VHF (hi-band) and record frequencies unattended, 
Then I would like to do the same thing with 10 meter (28 MHz) for beacons.

Suggestions are appreciated!

Mine is Ser 2709. Bought it new must have been 1997. Still quite a new
product at the time so yours must be about the same vintage.

This is my first posting to the group ...

I've recently acquired a PCR1000 with the serial number 02408.

Can anyone tell me (approximately) when this was actually made ... I've 
looked through the archive and its not obvious.

There was one listed at 3960 dated late 98, does anyone own one with a 
similar serial number and knows when that was produced.
