I had trouble too at first, if you are tuned to a control channel, press 
trunk, then press search and it should say searching in the display then stop 
on any active voice channels, make sure you have the right band plan selected 
or you wont hear anything and wont see the correct voice freq in the display.

keep the squelch at the lowest until you get it working

also if you click on control you see a trunker like display and if you click 
on dump you see the raw data display, if you dont see data in these something 
is wrong

I dont think FSK vs FM matters as I have gotten it to work on both, just make 
sure you have the 15 khz IF button selected
