I've uninstalled my Bluetooth card, which was causing me to have so many COM
ports. I then renamed COM14 to COM3 and rebooted. Now the program exits as
soon as I change the COM port to 3 on the options page. The options page
shows (correctly) COM1, 2 and 3 which are now the only serial ports present
on the PC.

This may be relevant.... COM3 (formerly COM14) is a USB serial port, i.e.
I'm using the serial port on the back of a Belkin F5U012x2 USB
hub+serial+parallel.

Cheers,

Mark.
