[PCR-1000] PCR-DSP

Some satcom cab be accomplished with 'stock' dipoles and verticals.

However, different polarization (typically circular) is needed for effective
wefax reception.  If you look at the typical helix antenna, you start to get
an appreciation for some of the design differences.  I've been using a pair
of M2 loops with the radial kits under them for FM UHF/VHF sat com.  Works
great as the antenna pattern is more up than horizontal and creates RH
Circular polarization with something like a 45 degree takeoff angle.
Without the radial kit, the antenna pattern favors the horizon with
horizontal polarization.

I also have some custom made attic mount helix antenna for other work.

Weak signal comm at the horizon (very low elevation angles from those sats
that are in wide orbits of thousands of kms) usually requires a steerable
directional antenna set.

Ordinary outdoor dipoles generally work well for HF sat work.

However, you should be able to have voice com with the ISS with nothing more
than a 5W HT and a handheld beam like the 'ARROW' antenna.  You can usually
hear the ISS voice or packet racket with just a good HT duckie when the pass
is above 30 degrees elevation...
