The UT-106 is a very good tool that requires some experience to master,
moving from band to band. I have multiple PCR1000s of different
configurations, and the price of the DSP is well worth it on each.
Gains come mainly from ambient noise reduction across the board, and
very good results in HF on AM and SSB to clarify voice / data
modulation. Decode should be considered a function of the receivers
dynamic sensitivity, on any band. The noise reduction, and this maybe
just in my head, but TalkPCRs' DSP function for noise reduction, with
the UT-106, is phenomenal. In addition, being a valuable added
function, it also adds value to the radios' resale, should that be
considered.
There are also some very good DSP programs that use current sound card
technology to provide a vast array of manipulation of received sound.
EchoFilter is very good, however it consumes a good amount of processor
overhead, and is not really user friendly. In software, this is
expected. The UT-106 uses hardware to appropriate similarities in
function, without the math involved with complex audio algorithms that
chew up CPU time.

Yes, i like my DSP. No wonders, but it does give clearer signals, works
best on AM. I have not tested on 137MHz Wefax.
