get a 8 ft ground rod from home depot or the like and a cable clamp and run
the shortest and fatest cable you can to it.
if the area doesnt have good soil, clumping cat litter has been used to
enhance the soil properties (it has some special mineral in it).
for EMI and better overall performance you might want to consider a loop or
dipole and use a balun to hook it to the coax.
ferrite chokes on the coax will help as well and ground the coax shield near
where it comes in the house
there are lots of good antenna desings on the web just do a search on HF
antennas, here are some to get you started. bear in mind you may get overload
with a better antenna and you might want to consider an external passive
preselector like the MFJ 1046. I use a long wire but my coworker uses the
wellbrooke active loop with great results but needed the preselector
