Yes, the PCR1000 is a toy but, a nice toy.

It does better than my Alinco X-10 on VHF and UHF with the discone antenna.

It performs better than my Kenwood 5000 on HF using the sloper primarily 
because of the option of using decoding software.  As far as international 
SW - it is basically a tie.  Tone is better on the PCR because of the Sound 
Blaster Live card and my Boston Acoustic speakers.  Front end overload less 
on the Kenwood.  But, for ease of use 99% of the time I prefer the PCR.

My GE SuperRadio is much better on MW, it stays at my office.

But my Crane CC Radio is even better, it stays by my bed.

The Kenwood wins on LW and MW, so I use that in the shack.

My Sangean 909 is much better for traveling than my cheapie Grundig G4 but, 
the G4 will go no where the 909 or the SuperRadio will (the G-4 lives in my 
backpack).

I would like to add a trunk tracker to my collection.

I would love to upgrade the Kenwood to a NRD but, the Ten Tec DSP radio 
also looks appealing.

But, the next purchase is the DSP for the Icom.

All are toys - and the other comments about the PCR being a toy should not 
dissuade anyone thinking about buying one.  I agree that the WinRadio and 
the Ten Tec are more open featured both have advantages.  Neither are Toys!
