[PCR-1000] HIGH / LOW s/n

Hi,

If they did skip s/n's then that would make the numbers even more
disparaging for such a great radio.  Seems that all of our 'constructive
criticisms' have centered on the software and Icom's support policies.  BTW,
Icom would not be the first hardware maker -radio or otherwise - to have
third parties that build a better software mousetrap.

With only two basic models (Blocked / Un-Blocked), it's very possible that
'blocks' of units are not bundled in the factory, but at Icom's (or their
in-country distributor's) distribution center(s).  Packaging at the end of
the manufacturing process would take care of differences like DSP/no DSP,
120/60 - 240/50 powercube, and country specific labeling and language
specific literature.

To the best of my knowledge, Icom had only two versions - one for the US
(cell-blocked) and one for everywhere else.  It's probable that serial
numbers are affixed at the end of the assembly process and done in runs of
US and non-US versions.

I've dealt with avionics makers who built GA radios with 25kHz spacing for
the North American market and 12.5kHz channel spacing for Europe (possibly
to be 8.33kHz spacing worldwide in the near future) and they did exactly
this - runs of products with consecutive nums.  Same for their mil-spec
units - US-DOD and 'everyone else.
