[PCR-1000] PCR 1000 Programming Commands

Hi to all PCR1000 owners on the list.

First of all - thanks for the continual stream of good PCR1000 info.
I have 3 of these little babies and cross-my-fingers so far no 
troubles, but then 2 are still in there shipping boxes. Only 1 gets a 
little bit of use so far.

Secondly, I wished to pass on some info I recently got "in-person" 
directly from an ICOM rep at a local "ICOM Day" at a ham radio 
equipment dealer.
I was told that the PCR 1000 command set and programming info was 
readily availble if, and only if, two conditions are met:
A. You sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to keep the info 
private, and
B. Pay a $500.00USD license fee.

In the world of commercial software development, these NDA's are 
common practice and ICOM's terms are very, repeat very, fair, 
reasonable and in good practical terms. It is probably how a few 
commercial companies where able to get a start on writing those third 
party programs for the PCR1000 that one needs to purchase, as opposed 
to the shareware/freeware ones.

Unfortunately, from a individual or hobbyist view, $500USD is a 
significant amount of money. I for one will simply have to live 
without them as I can't afford that and will not use a stolen copy of 
them even if I was given one.

I was also assured that ICOM USA was continuing to offer service and 
support for the PCR1000 radio far into the future, as far as the rep 
could tell.
