I think the most interesting thing is that Icom actually have links to =
3rd party
software from their PCR1000 info.

The funny thing with this is (from readme.txt for the Icom software):

---SNIP---
-Microsoft=AE Windows=AE 95 or Microsoft=AE Windows=AE Version 3.1 with=20
 appropriate DOS
---SNIP---

Oh yeah... Windows 95 is mentioned in the requirements...
I dont know what Icom say about this, but they sure dont like windows =
2000.
My scanner went crazy after using ONLY their "official" software.
I made a backup of that eeprom to a RAD (and BIN) file, just for fun.
I did not have any "good" backup... I did not know at that time that the
recievers eeprom could get FUBAR.
I have compared the information in the damaged backup and the info in =
the
working backup. They REALLY dont match. The beginning of the files are
somewhat the same... but the end is just a mess in the damaged one. It =
seems
that the same numbers are repeating over and over to fill the file.
I have not had the time or energy to analyze this further yet.

Actually it dont matter to me that I now use another recievers backup... =
my
reciever works just fine. I did send a letter to my local Icom dealer, =
who
replied that they did not care how the reciever got messed up, and they =
would
still fix it if the reciever was a mod-version (mine is not).
The price that they wanted me to pay for the work (they said they =
estimated
the work to an hour or so) was 600 SEK. That is ... well, almost 60 EUR
or something... This price was not "so bad"... but I will not send it =
in. I dont
want to pay anything now that my reciever works anyways.

I dont have the gear to perform the service on my own just now... Well, =
I do
have the software, but I need some extra hardware.

Have a nice day!
