[PCR-1000] Antenna masts and the PCR1000

Hi Everyone,
I just received my PCR1000 Receiver. I'm working toward my amateur license
and want to CONSTRUCT a separate X'mit and receive station incorporating the
PCR1000. I am thinking I may need the optional UTC-106 DSP unit to make this
work.
Here's what I have so far:
1.) the receiver
2.) a Gates (Intertype?) HFL1000 1 kW (1.5 kW) Amplifier donated by my
wonderful company. I know this thing can put out 1.5 kW with its 4CX1000A
final. :-)
3.) A Fluke 6060B Signal Generator for the exciter. The amp only needs 1 mW
to drive it at 1.5 kW. I have modified the external modulation port of the
sig gen for this purpose. It will do AM, FW, PM, and CW, but sadly, not SSB.
I am looking into ways of incorporating a MiniCircuits SSB modulator to
remedy this.
4.) The power meter...OF COURSE !!!
5.) Reflectometer to match the antenna(s).
Here's what I am lacking:
1.) Amateur experience. I an just beginning guys, so be kind to me. I have
worked at Bird Electronics for 15 years, so I have all the theory. I need to
log some air time for the practical end of things.
2.) An antenna scheme.
3.) A microphone with enough drive for the signal generator. I am looking
into several possibilities for a mic preamp. A D104 possibly?
4.) Money
Here are some specific questions I have:
1.) Can I build a vertical antenna system capable of 1 kW X'mission, out of
PCV pipe (UV protected). I would want to use a straight wire with a
transmatch scheme instead of loading coils. I would like to cover the entire
HF band with one omnidirectional antenna. I will use a separate (long wire?)
antenna for receive.
2.) Best cable to use? I will use a separate cable for each X'mit and
receive.
3.) Can most transceivers demodulate (pure) AM even though they are in SSB
mode?
4.) Do I need to buy the UTC-106 DSP unit to make this work.
I have a lot of RF and microwave knowledge, so I am pretty handy at these
things. Any feed-back will be greatly appreciated. Am I going in the right
direction?
