i thought the same thing until i bought one.  it's manufactured by a mac 
accessory company, with only one guy (named don) who knows much about 
windows.  unfortunately, their windows65/98/2000 driver (still in beta) 
doesn't support mouse click or scroll wheel emulation.  you can emulate any 
keystroke and assign  it to a left or right turn of the knob, but this 
otherwise wonderful human interface device is of limited utility to 
PCR-1000 users until it supports mouse click and scroll wheel emulation.

don suggested i send a well-worded email to their support department 
requesting mouse click and scroll wheel support.  i strongly advise 
everyone on this list to email <support@griffintechnology.com> and write 
them something similar to what i have (see below.)  if they get enough 
requests, they may add support for the features we need into their windows 
driver.  once that happens, we'll have a very nice (and reasonably priced) 
"analog feel" tuning controller for the PCR-1000.

hello,

i just purchased a powermate knob and installed it on my windows98 
system.  the application(s) i wish to use your product for employ the left 
& right mouse buttons to turn a virtual knob, which is used to control the 
frequency of various types types of radio equipment.  unfortunately, it 
appears that your programmers did not think to include left & right mouse 
button emulation in the powermate control panel software.

since your windows driver is in beta, please add this simple, necessary 
feature.  there are numerous windows software packages that use the left & 
right mouse buttons (and the scroll wheel/button) to emulate analog 
controls in the external equipment the software is designed to 
control.  supporting these simple emulations would not require much coding, 
but would open up your market to many more powermate windows customers.

as a writer for various technical magazines, i would actively promote the 
use of your powermate product if griffin added these simple features to its 
windows control panel software.  please advise me if griffin technology can 
commit to adding support for these needed features.  thank you.
