I second the idea recently posted: it sounds like your particular
wall-wart is seriously underpowered, and the regulators/filters are
swamping out under the load of the power-on mode of the radio. A sure way
to tell this is to leave it on (and in 'power on') for a few minutes. The
wall-wart ought to get very hot very fast.
I have a 12v 2A DC unit on mine, strictly analog, and it runs fine.
If you can substitute a known-good 2 ampere or greater unit (take care
to get the polarity right!!) it may be the solution to your problem.
Then again, aliens may have 'borrowed' your radio to do 'experiments'
on - did you turn out the lights to see it emits a soft green-blue glow?
