[PCR-1000] PCR1000 Windows XP

With all due respect, I implore those with issues to consider or
re-consider W2K.  XP is an unknown, and was built that way.  I have run
many PCR1K apps on W2K Pro and have had no issues at all with the
machinations of simple COM port functionality, tuning, or scan lists.  I
stand firm that the W2K / NT platform are the sweetest of the available
poisons.  Always remember, a good software vendor puts his/her apps
through alpha, then beta testing.  The fundamental process of the
development cycle of a software product.  The software vendor, prior to
selling his wares, must be able to tell you that the wares are tested
and "assumed" to run on a specific operating system.  So we run merrily
through life, and run into a company called Bonito, who hawks wares
"designed to run with the PCR1000" and realize that the laugh is on me.
Does not Gates, et al, provide to all the same sense of insecurity ?  In
my seemingly insignificant role in this matter, all I offer are the
good, bad and ugly of my experiences.  Always remember, in this worldly
bazaar of an "open" market, the buyer has no choice but to think he is
being taken advantage of.  This way, if something crawls along, like W2K
and Talk PCR, and fit together today, go for it. Tomorrow provides its'
own grief.

I built it, saved it and everything appeared normal, went back to it and
it
only had ONE frequency, not the 50 or so I had spent all the time
entering.
At first I suspected that it would not let me save because I didn't have
a
"registered" copy but the more I looked at it, I could find no reason
why
it didn't save.  My "unregistered" copy will not convert the Icom files
either despite that being one of the options, to convert a .MCH file.  I
tried this about 10 times before figuring that this function must be
disabled.

The only positive experience I had with TalkPCR was the fact that it did
bring up the receiver in XP.
