[PCR-1000] Adding Shortwave Antenna

Many thanks to the list for initial antenna advice.  I now have the RS 
Discone on the roof.  HF is improved but sitll lacking.

The RS Discone is mounted at about 30ft. and giving me great reception on 
VHF/UHF.  I would love to have this rig. continue wideband reception into 
the SW and AM frequencies.  I am considering using a G5RV or a Sloper type 
wire antenna hanging it at 30 ft. and running the leader to the coax input 
at the base of the discone into a splitter 75 Ohm TV splitter rated for 5 
to 900MHz.

The coax leading into the house runs about 80 feet.

I also have a 8 ft. earth ground outside my office (receiving room) window 
that is currently not connected.

Is the splitter a good idea? Or do I need to bring the wire antenna inside 
and split or switch it inside? What about the ground? Currently unused 
because it decreases my signal on HF/AM with the discone.

Any thoughts, ideas, modifications.
