[PCR-1000] wxsat with PCR-1000-help

Hi,

Frequencies are:- 137.62mhz for NOAA14, 137.50mhz for NOAA 12 and 15, 
137.30 for Meteor 3-5
and if you are very very lucky 137.40mhz for Okean-4 and SICH-1, 137.85mhz 
for Resurs-01

NOAA and Meteor will be picked up almost anywhere, the others are rare.

Mode is FM/NBFM with 50K bandwidth. Switch OFF the other stuff.

Obtain Wxtrack or similar to predict when your next pass is, its helps a 
lot if you know the lat and long of your QTH.

You will be able to pick up transmissions when the sats pass overhead or 
close to you, you do need the right antenna as the signals are circ 
polarised. A turnstile or QFH are preferable for recording a full pass. A 
discone or scanstick will probably only give you a partial pass. The 
Russian meteor sat gives the strongest signal but only when it is in 
sunlight otherwise it stops transmitting. The USA NOAA sats transmit at all 
times and if you are getting very dark visible light images decode the 
image as infrared. Use Satsignal or similar for this. Record using a 
package like Wxsat. These are all easily obtainable from the web eg 
www.satsignal.net .

Wxsat recording needs to be setup as start at subcarrier and to save the 
.wav file

The PCR is a pig to get to scan these frequencies and I found it is best to 
manually set a frequency just ahead of the pass coming over you and full 
squelch. You shloud hear the "pinging" get louder as the sat gets nearer.
