If you use VNC from http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/ it won't cost you 
anything and it doesn't matter what operating system the clients are using.  
However, I don't know how you're going to keep people from messing with your 
system if you use the Windows version.  (The Linux version starts its *own* 
desktop rather than working on the main one, so you can configure the remote 
desktop to be run as any user.)  In other words, it's overkill for 
controlling the radio remotely.
