I wasn't *asked* if I used third party software.  I was *told* I had used 
third party software, and that was the only way the EEPROM could have been 
corrupted.  End of discussion as far as they were concerned.

I've looked over and over their website where Icom posts third party 
software links, etc.  NOWHERE can I find anything about how using 3rd party 
software will/may "corrupt" your receiver and/or void your warranty.  It's 
just not in print.  Neither is it implied.  They do say they won't support 
3rd party software (duh).  That's not what my beef is.

Thanks for the historical background, Jim.  Guess I'll be another to 
boycott their radios.  Pity--I always thought they had nice stuff.
