I had intended to introduce myself earlier, but time was not on my side.
The server owner and administrator had several lists that needed
volunteer administrators, and the PCR-1000 list was one that I took,
among several others.
I'm Jim Lowman, AD6CW, of Highland, CA; an owner of a PCR-1000. Lately,
time has not permitted me to be on the air much, or to learn the
capabilities of this receiver.
As far as the list configuration, it's a simple matter to change it so
that replies go to the list and, in that respect, I'll leave it to the
members of this list to vote for their preference, including those who
have voiced an opinion already.
That being said, there are strong pros and cons for each side of the
issue. On one hand, replies to the list facilitate the sharing of
information. OTOH, they can contribute a great deal of noise to the
list and this can annoy other members.
If there is an overwhelming majority of members in favor of the change
I will do so, but my vote is to leave things the way they are. Of the
23 lists that I administer at qth.net, and one at contesting.com, all
are configured so that the replies go to the originator of the message
and not to the list. In a recent survey of the members of
[email protected], the overwhelming consensus was to let the replies
go to the originator of the message.
Finally, I'm not a person who cares much for rules, but it looks like the
first rule for this list is: no flaming on the list. If you disagree
with a person's opinion, debate it with logic but keep the debate civil.
Also, if you have any suggestions concerning the list configuration or
operation, please send them directly to me and not to the list.
Finally, while you may feel that unsubscribing from the list is your
best option, please leave gracefully and without fanfare. The fact is,
no one really cares why you are leaving; it's a personal decision.
Thanks for your consideration.
