Same Discone here... V E R Y H A P P Y !

For HF (real low stuff) I use a longwire diapole (about 50 foot total
length) and have great results with RTTY, CW and weaksignals. Longwire
was made from a project on an ARRL antenna book

Anything but the one that came with the radio. For kicks, my radio picks
up NYPD without anything connected to the antenna jack with about 7 on
the meter... It all depends on the power of the signal and the
frequency.

Spend the $130 bucks on the Discone and you will be a very happy
customer.

Sample benefits:

I am 20 miles from Newark Airport, 7 miles from LaGuardia and about 20
from JFK in NYC. With the original aerial mounted near the window, I got
NOTHING BUT planes going averhead (this is AM, 108-130 mhz), Discone out
onthe fire escape, 2nd floor, I now pick up the tower and some ground
frequencies from all three airports. And MANY MANY more planes far far
far away... ;-))

Pre-dipole, I got nothing but noise on the 70 meters bands. Post Dipole
I get so much activity I have to use a narrow filter and tune VERY
SLOWLY.

good luck
