[PCR-1000] help with talkpcr

Malone,
I am currently usuing Scanstar. I tried the demo of Talk PCR and found it to
be one of the better packages out there. It was a little awkward for me to
figure out but that's only due to my having used scanstar for years and I
did not put alot of time into figuring out TalkPCR because I switched back
to using Scanstar simply because I have six other computer controlled radios
and all of them work under scanstar. I also use Trunkstar which is for my
BC780 but the files are all compatible with my other scanstar files without
any converting back and forth. From what I see you wish to be able to do
Scanstar will do great but be advised it's not cheap. For someone out there
that only has a PCR1000. I would highly recommend TalkPCR. You can tell alot
of time and effort went into its development.
But on the flip side of the coin, for someone like me who has seven comupter
controlled rigs. I would have to go with Scanstar.
Under Scanstar, I can scan up to 25 Groups. with prety much an unlited
amount of banks in each group, and about 1000 channels per bank. Now
obvously I cant listen to that many at the same time, but with proper
organizatioon of my channels/banks it all falls into place. I can very
easily switch from scanning a few hundred freqs in my active banks to
scanning just one by clicking that freq with my mouse. If I want to scan
more freqs I just left click them and can activate as many as I want to. I
can do my banks the same way. I can even edit the channels name/decritipion
and several other deatails simply by right clicking the channel. Now this
will pause the scanning while you edit but you don't have to back out of the
active display to do it. As soon as you edit the channel just click done and
the scanner automatically starts up again.
Anyway, the link is below and is worth a look see. I forget the current
price as I have been using it fir about seven years now. I think I paid
$40.00 when I picked it up.I think it'sover $100.00 now. It's worth it, for
me anyway.
BTW, Another good aspect of it is that with the same package I can have full
control of 4 radios with no significant impact on the resources of my
computer. OYou are only limited by your available number of serial ports.
Out of all the different software I have tested out. no other package would
let me do this without impacting my computer's resources. As a matter of
fact I am typing this email on a 700mhz laptop while it is controlling 3
scanners and is online. No other package let me do that without locking up.
Even Scancat would bog down my computers, Although I hear they have made
significant improvement.

I am a registered owner of TalkPCR but I find that this particular aspect
makes it almost unusable for me. It's not possible to use the nice
user-friendly main control panel whilst having the ability to see the
descriptions of all the channels in a bank or see what channels are in
different banks and quickly switch between them all. It's a real pain that
you can't move to another bank without closing the channel edit form.
I don't think that I use this receiver like most of you on the list. For
example I rarely scan. All I want to do is to be able to select one of many
preset channels which I have stored in a lot of different banks - grouping
various types of station together - and switch between them at will. As I
remember, the ICOM software did this much better than TalkPCR - but in
practically every other respect it was a disaster so has been removed from
my computer.
I wonder if there is software that caters for my rather specific
requirements?
