By 'full coverage', are you referring to the blocked analog cell frequencies
??

I'm not sure if TalkPCR is 'blocked'.  I would imagine that is NOT blocked -
as the same product is sold worldwide.  There is a 'CELL block' is in the US
version of the radio...  'Earlier' PCR-1000's could be reconfigured with
some jumpers.  'Later' ones are all but impossible to unblock - requiring
you to obtain and replace the surface mounted processor.  Your best bet may
be to just buy an 'unblocked' European or Canadian version of the radio.

You may find the 'content' on the analog cell bands rather thin and
disappointing.  In many areas that do have digital cell coverage (virtually
all US metro areas and their suburbs) , the analog cell bands are very
underutilized for phone calls.  Newer calling plans that provide for free
long distance, no roaming charges, and unlimited nights & weekend air time
all require the use of a digital phone.

Although almost all 'digital areas' still have their analog systems running,
they are planned to shut down by FCC reg by about 2005 or so.  The carriers
are happy about this as the analog systems are underutilized and expensive
to maintain for the limited income they produce.  Analog cellular is only in
regular use in some less populated areas that do not have a large enough
subscriber base for the investment of the newer cell-switches (the
cell-phone 'base stations').

And... most users understand that their conversations are not private - so
it's unlikely you'll catch any elected reps spewing any choice topics.

There are quite a few other non-phone uses of the analog cellular
frequencies-- data reporting, system monitoring, and even some public-safety
data systems (in-car computers, etc)... that are all threatened by the
looming shutdown of the AMPS systems.

The US reg that required manufacturer's to 'block' the analog cell bands
came about just as the cell carriers were going digital anyway.  Typical of
much government regulation, it was a 'knee jerk' reaction to a well
publicized event.
