Sorry to be so brief.
I have had great restults with ChromaPIX and listening around 14.231. Try
USB with either the 6K filter or the 2.8K filter. You can hear people there
most any time, but I have always found that Saturday morning (Eastern Time)
seems to have the most activity.
Here is a super link for SSTV software:

I have also decoded Motorola and EDACS Trunked radios. You will need 2
radios to actually follow the converstations, but this setup works great. I
also have a Uniden 780 (which is a great radio) which can do trunking fine,
but if you are curious you can get more information from the PCR-1000 and
Trunker.
Here is the place to look for info:

This brings up a good point. There are bascically 2 ways to decode digital
singals. Either you do it through the soundblaster (which samples the
output and turns it onto the 1s and 0s, or you use a descriminator tap and a
simple op-amp circuit which takes the descriminator output and truns it onto
the 1s and 0s.
This type of interface is required for some types of decoding, but the
soundblaster keeps getting better and better these days.
I did end up building my own 2-level "hamcomm" type interface using
instructions off of the net. On of the pages had a full Radio Shack parts
list so it was fairly easy.
Here is a good page on building interfaces:

I also did get a morse code decoder to work once and also an RTTY package,
but it was so long ago I don't remember the details.
This is a great page for soundblaster software.

Here are a couple of links full of software to use with a soundblaster.

Good luck. There is alot of cool stuff to play with once you get into
decoding.
For long time I prefered to listed to these crazy beeps and buzzes over
listening to people...
