Hi All
I queried the situation with Icom UK regarding the software
compatibility issues and the correspondence below ensued. I think it
shows that at least Icom UK while still treading carefully are at least
being aware of the problem and making an effort to do something about
it. One does wonder though what would happen in the event of EPROM
corruption while using RadioCom. I assume the special price is
available against units purchased in UK.
Would be a shame if the PCR1000 was to disappear. I use mine in a very
limited way compared to some of you guys but it=92s such a very =
versatile
unit. When I bought mine it was a toss up between Winradio or the PCR.
The PCR won on the portability aspect as Winradio at that stage was ISA
slot only, the ICOM being the only radio of its type.
I=92m not sorry I bought it; I think it was the right decision at the
time.
Hope the info below helps somebody!
Graham

We are supplying the RadioCom software with all new IC-PCR100 &
IC-PCR1000 units as we have tested this & are 99.99% confident with it.

The "talk PCR" site also offers I believe a tool to back-up the EPROM
contents. While we have not tested the "talk PCR" solution it appears to
be OK.
=20
The only current 100% safe method is to revery to a version of Windows
that is compatible with the original software.

Thanks Matt for your reply.=20

A bit confused though - I've been hearing all sorts of horror stories
about EPROM in the PCR1000 being corrupted by third party software.
Certainly IUSA specifically preclude any responsibility on their web
site. Am I to assume that IUK are happy to stand behind the packages
mentioned? Just that being where I am any problems of this nature assume
somewhat larger proportions than being in Europe or US.
