[PCR-1000] audio out/Sound Card/TNC

A recent post asked a question about audio output to a sound card for
packet.  The current generation -1000's (at least per the current manual
on-line at ICOM's website) have a single output jack.   There are
instructions to open the case and set a jumper for proper audio levels for
speaker (probably high output) OR soundcard/tnc (low?).

It is easy to overdrive soundcards.  One of the things that keeps most users
from getting PSK31 ot MTTY to work well is doing just that - louder is not
always better .  One basic principle is that the noise is amplified right
along with the desired signal,

My unit, bought in 1998, has two audio feeds, one labeled 'External Speaker'
and another labeled 'Packet 9600'.  I've had good luck luck using the
'speaker out' jack (but I do set the 'line-in' volume rather low - only on
the second tick).  Now, I'm really gonna find the box in the attic with my
original manual........
