[PCR-1000] Larry's usb to serial port converter

I bought a Larry's usb converter that Tim Edwards recommended and it works
great, except now I have my pcr-1000 and the pcr software does not see the
connection.  It works, I can tune the radio, then up pops a screen saying
the com port 2 is not connected and the pcr-1000 software freezes until I
click the ok button on the screen saying its not working, while it is
working.  when I click the ok button, it does stop working.  what gives? is
this a pcr-1000 software problem, or did I buy the wrong usb converter from
