Please be sure to sort out all details about payment and postal address
before shipping your set off to Vlad and his team. Also, I would get a
quote first - It can still be quite expensive if there are many chips to
replace.

Co incidentally - I am trying to purchase 2 3TF7 valves from ESCO in
Italy, but am having a terrible time with attempts to pay by credit
card. Probably the change over to Euros is to blame.

All the EX2099 program will do is help you to realign the receiver - It
sounds to me as if the firmware in your EEPROM is corrupt. You could try
restoring new firmware from a set with a serial number close to yours
(Don't ask me how! - because I don't know).

  I  read  your  message  on  the  QTH-Net  mailing list about PCR1000
  servicing, so I'm now bothering you asking some infos.

  I  got  a  problem  with  my  best  beloved receiver: one day it got
  basically  deaf,  only  noise  on  the  most  part of channels, some
  channel  absolutely  silent,  on  a specific channel selecting it it
  starts an upscanning. Puzzling.

  I got from the internet suggestion it could be an EEPROM corruption;
  as  I'm  using  TalkPCR and had a backup of the settings, I tried to
  rewrite  them; the prog does everything fine, but with no results on
  radio health.

  I  got  a  copy  of  the Ex2099 and related manual, so I could try a
  realignment,  but  I  wonder  if  this  could be an hardware related
  problem: maybe I got some static and the front-end could be damaged;
  if so, I can't try surface-mount repair by myself.

  I  live  in  Italy,  here we have an Icom importer but this nice guy
  doesn't take care of giving servicing to the products he's selling! 

  So, these are the questions:

  1.  Could  you share your opinion on what could have happened to the
  radio and if I'm right trying the Ex2099?

  2.  Could  you let me know how to contact the Johannesburg servicing
  agency  you  mention  (as a student, I'm on a tight budget... if the
  solution  is to send the radio somewhere to get it repaired, well...
  US prices could kill my bank account!)
