It has been a while since we have talked, but in that time we have been
hard at work behind-the-scenes and I am pleased announce the Star City
repeater is on the air! The frequency is 146.670 (negative offset) with
a 114.8 PL tone. We are still working on a link radio so at this time
the Star City repeater does not connect to the CAREN Club link system
(W5DI).
Spread the word! As we previously discussed, you are welcome to use this
repeater for local club activities and simple ragchewing. I hope you
will be successful in stoking interest among your students as well as
the local Amateur Radio community.
The ONLY stipulations regarding use of this repeater are as follows:
·The CAREN Club reserves the right to "grab" the Star City repeater at
any time and link it into the W5DI system. This will occur on a weekly
basis when the CAREN Club conducts its two weekly nets. On Tuesday we
have a training net at 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday we have a traffic net
at 7:00 p.m. Both nets typically last under an hour. Additionally, on
the 2^nd Tuesday of the month, the Arkansas SKYWARN training net is
conducted at 7:00 p.m. in lieu of the regular training net. This too
typically lasts under an hour. We hope to hear you and other Amateur
Radio operators from the Star City area on these nets!
·The Star City repeater will ONLY link to the W5DI system. No other
repeater is authorized to link TO the Star City repeater. If you become
aware of another repeater owner linking his system (typically via remote
base), please notify us immediately.
·Sometimes we encounter other groups who like to use remote base
stations to link to other repeaters in an effort to extend the reach of
their nets. We will not allow this to happen to the Star City repeater
and will rely on you and other locals to help keep us aware of any
efforts. If you hear any other nets on this machine, please notify us at
once.
I want to give you contact information in case you have a question, an
idea or need to report something wrong with the Star City repeater.

Both of us are usually available 24/7 and you can usually get in touch
with us directly on the 146.940 in Little Rock. Please feel free to
communicate any and all information about your experience with this
repeater. We will rely on you and other local users to give us updates
on its general health and welfare.
Finally, I want to thank you for pointing us in the right direction. It
has taken eight months for this project to come to fruition -- from the
time last December that I first contacted you to the time I am sending
this email. We still have a few things to do, but couldn't have done any
of it without you.
Welcome to the W5DI linked repeater system. Looking forward to making
new contacts in the Star City area!
