[PBARC] Rain gauge ... oddity

I noticed by looking at http://aprs.fi and typing in n5rn-6 (for the my aprs
wx station) that I was seeing the rain amount for today slowly but surely
going up.  Odd since there was not a cloud in the sky.  I went out to look
at the rain gauge and there was about ½” of ice in the rain gauge.   What
was happening was that the ice was melting and adding to today’s rain
amount.

 

I removed the slab of ice
 looked to see if there was any reason why the
gauge wasn’t draining properly.  I didn’t see anything but will likely have
to wait until the next rain event to know for sure.

 

Just goes to show that the odd things can throw you for a loop.
