All -
Bill (KC5MN) and I removed the old 24 equipment and installed the Maggiore
and ARCOM rc210 controller with the real time clock (RTC) this morning. All
seems well. You should listen to it for a couple of days and after you get
used to the sound of it, let me know of any issues. We have a minor one
already - the unlock codes don't work. We tried what we thought was the
programmed code and then I tried the default and neither worked. This is
not a big issue since the new firmware to use the features of the RTC was
NOT released this week. Once the firmware is released, I will bring the
controller back to the house and program it with again. Down time should be
less than an hour. I will verify the unlock code at that time.
On 146.700, I just got a note from Bill saying he received some of the ICs
he needed to continue his progress in getting this repeater back on the air.
The ARPS digi on 28th street seems to be working fine. I made a trip to the
site earlier this week to make some minor tweaks on the config file. If you
want explore APRS but don't have a radio and/or tnc to dedicate to it, you
can download UIVIEW32 and after registering (it's free), you can use your
internet connection to explore APRS.
Calls of interest in the area: N5RN-10 (an internet gateway for the RF
traffic in the area), PINBLF - the name of the PineBluff digi. AF5AR - my
mobile call for the time being.
If you just want to look at the information about these nodes, you can go to
aprs.fi and enter the nodes and you can see information about each of these
nodes. If you enter AF5AR and search back in time you can see my
wanderings around Pine Bluff. You can also get live updates if I'm mobile.
Those of you with an iPhone, there is an APRS app that is pretty neat.
That's it for now...enjoy the hobby and have a great weekend!
73,
glenn
PS: I'm still trying to figure out how to clear the 24x7 Tornado watch on
the 147.195 repeater
