These are my notes and are no way intended to take the place of the
minutes of the meeting:
We had several guests at this meeting: Georgia Seward, KB5VJA, John
Norland AD5FU, Lynette Norland KD5QMD, Kayla Norlund, KE5JYX, and Randy
(I didn't catch his call).
After we took care of our routine business, Georgia talked to the group
about the ARKY Bike Race and how we could help support the event. There
was discussion about frequencies, equipment, and logistics. I feel that
everyone there was very enthusiastic about participating. The date for
the event is 12 Oct. (Sunday). Setup needs to start at 7:00A with the
race starting at 8:00A. We will operate a simplex net with the primary
frequency being 146.57 with 146.52 as a backup. Some expressed an
interest in a 440 simplex frequency. We will investigate and report to
the group.
After Georgia wrapped her presentation up, John Norland - AD5FU - asked
if we could work with someone at JRMC to utilize their video conference
room for a Storm Spotters course scheduled for 6 October. I indicated
that I would talk to N5OEM about a contact and see if he could help set
this up. John indicated that he would also like to bring the Dumas
hospital into the picture as well. Georgia indicated that she would
investigate. Wally may be able to help with a contact there. John
needs a seat count in the rooms so he would know how much material to
send to each site.
Randy then made a brief presentation about the Weather Nets and the
offerings that CAUHF has for getting Weather information to the NWS.
Some of their option don't require you to be a ham. He talked of
monitoring local police, fire, and AWINS frequencies. He also indicated
there is an text messaging service available that will indicate when
repeaters/weather are in your area. See www.cauhf.org.
It was a really good meeting and I really appreciate the guests we had.
73,
glenn
